Column: TNA 101 - May 10th
“The Road to Sacrifice” Note from Editor Newton Gimmick: Be sure to tune in this Sunday to see the Sacrifice Roundtable Preview featuring, Talon, myself and the rest of the crew making predictions for this Sunday's big PPV! What I will discuss in this column: § TNA iMPACT! Report Card § Preview for Sacrifice § TNA War of the Words § TNA Behind the Scenes (News and Notes from TNA) § A few personal notes § Total Nonstop Interaction iMPACT! Report Card May 8, 2007 Match Results § Jimmy Rave defeated X Champion, Petey Williams, Shark Boy, Curry Man, Consequences Creed and Johnny Devine in a Non-Title Match when he pinned Curry Man following “The Move that Rocks the World”. § Gail Kim won a Knockouts Immunity Pole Match by grabbing the head shaver on a Pole which makes her immune from losing her hair at Sacrifice. § Sting defeated James Storm in a No DQ Match following a Stinger Splash through a table followed by the Scorpion Death Drop. § Matt Morgan defeated Kip James with a bicycle kick. § Scott Steiner and Kurt Angle defeated Samoa Joe and Kevin Nash Other Notes § At the beginning of iMPACT Jim Cornette announced that two of the “Egotistical 8” Teams would be picked tonight. The members of those teams would also have matches against each other tonight. James Storm was picked to team with Sting while Matt Morgan and Kip James will be partners at Sacrifice. Following the announcement, a brawl between Storm and Sting happened as well as a brawl between Kip James and Matt Morgan. § A fight backstage happened between Team 3D and Christian Cage/Rhino. The fight was interrupted by LAX who proceeded to beat down both teams including Hernandez launching Christian Cage into the wall with a Border Toss. § Kevin Nash foreshadowed a possible heal turn saying nobody could match him in strength but possibly mentally. § Jim Cornette announced that if the Immune Wrestler was the runner up in the match at Sacrifice, the person who came in third would get her head shaved. § It was announced that both Frank Trigg and Rick Steiner would be at Sacrifice as Steiner supports his brother while Trigg provides commentary. My Thoughts from the show § Solid go-home show for Sacrifice which saw a few teasers for the PPV § I enjoyed all the matches. Some needed more time than what they got. § LAX was built up well this show, so hopefully they walk out of Sacrifice the World Tag Team Champions. § It was announced that the TerrorDome Match would feature 10 X Division Stars fighting for an X Division Title Shot. Should be interesting and could be a good match. Show Grade: B Sacrifice Lineup § 3-Way Match for the World Heavyweight Championship: Samoa Joe vs Kurt Angle vs Scott Steiner § Makeover Battle Royal (Winner gets a Knockouts Title Shot while the runner up gets her head shaved; Gail Kim is immune) Gail Kim, ODB, Roxxi Laveaux, Jacqueline Moore, Christy Hemme, Traci Brooks, Angelina Love, Velvet Sky and Salinas § Deuce’s Wild Tournament for the Vacant Tag Team Titles: Featuring LAX, Team 3D, Christian Cage and Rhino, Super Eric and AJ Styles, Matt Morgan and Kip James, James Storm and Sting, Robert Roode, Booker T, Awesome Kong and BG James (Kong, BG, Roode and Booker T will be paired up randomly) § TerrorDome Match (Escape the hole in the ceiling to earn an X Division Title Shot): Featuring Kaz, Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin, Johnny Devine, Shark Boy, Curry Man, Consequences Creed, Jimmy Rave, Sonjay Dutt and Black Machismo (Check out the Sacrifice Roundtable during the weekend for my Sacrifice Predictions) TNA War of the Words Preview The TNA 101 Exclusive War of the Words debate will return next week for a very controversial topic, TNA’s Creative Direction. Here is what you need to know: -Debaters will be: Suzanne A will try and prove why the current TNA Creative Direction shouldn’t happen while Joe Travis will defend the current direction. I know Suzanne is up to it but if Joe isn’t then I will defend the TNA Direction. Joe, if you would like to represent and defend TNA Creative then please get back to me within the next few days. -Debaters will have one week to come up with an opening statement. Statement should be from a paragraph to two paragraphs long. Statements will not have personal attacks or insults included, debaters will be disqualified if they break these rules. -After the opening statements are posted next week on this column both debaters will have a week to respond to their opponents opening statements. They will then post a response for the following week. -The third week will see the participants provide a closing statement. -Readers will then determine who they think won the War of the Words and will be able to post commentary on the debate. -Topics on the debate need to include: *TNA’s use of gimmick matches *TNA’s foray into more storylines and less wrestling *AJ’s Styles character in the past year *Character development in TNA at the expense of the wrestling And much more -The winner will possibly get a reward of some sort, depending on the case. Behind the Scenes § TNA has hired a new director of marketing. The new Director formerly worked for Midway. From Midway’s money loss I don’t know how good this is. What I do know is Midway is a household name and hopefully this marketing will help TNA’s growth. § I have enjoyed Raw, ECW and Smackdown these past few weeks because of Vince Shaking up the WWE. WWE will blow it like usual so I don’t expect much. § Remember Stomper? The Rat/Kangaroo Mascot that TNA debuted at Sacrifice last year. I actually thought the mascot idea was a good one and would give TNA more of a sports feel. I couldn’t actually tell what the mascot was though. § Don’t expect TNA to strip Petey Williams of the X Division Title. From what I understand, TNA is thinking about keeping the belt on him through his injury and storyline a back door for him. With TerrorDome featuring the #1 Contender’s Match, TNA could “let the winner heal” after the match buying some time. Plus you have the World’s X Cup that could hold the challengers off for a while. § What a joke WWE’s Brand Extension is! Everything WWE could do wrong with the brand extension they have done. There is nothing unique about the brands, their rosters or their PPVs. That was a perfect idea of something original being thrown in the garbage. § TNA’s Website added a Wallpapers Section featuring some pretty cool wallpaper as well as a Title History Section (Recently the Wallpaper section has been removed.) § I love TNA’s Affliction T-Shirts, while I wouldn’t wear them to school I would wear them casually. Keep up the cool designs TNA. § Sorry guys, this has been a real slow week. I am still working on this feature. Personal Notes § I am completely worn out from spending 10 days at a School’s Conference. My school sent me as an ambassador for a variety of reasons: I am very good as a Kindergarten Teacher, I am leaving the school at the end of the month, they wanted me to make their school look good. I tell you that I am exhausted from the hotel to the traveling. I don’t know how wrestler’s can be away from their families for that long when I could barely be away from mine for 10 days. § Two movies I will recommend to my readers are Iron Man (which my son and I went to see in Theatres) and Alvin and the Chipmunks (which is a cute little film that features some catchy tunes). § The next year is huge for videogamers like me. From TNA iMPACT in September, to Mario Kart Wii that just came out. Gears of War 2 and Smackdown vs Raw 2009. Plus WWE Legends of Wrestlemania will come out in March 2009 alongside UFC 2009. I am stoked. § I will be angry over the next few months as I look for a job close to where I live. § From now on “TNA 101” will not be a weekly column but one I get out when I want. I can increase the special feel of the column by choosing when I get it out. Total Nonstop Interaction In preparation for the War of the Words Debate, do you like the current TNA Creative Direction? Why or why not? Where would you head creatively? Written by Talon “Damien Reign” Thorne Talon_DR@yahoo.com www.tnawrestling101.proboards57.com This article has been viewed 41 times.
