TNA Sacrifice Roundtable Preview
![]() Welcome to the TNAWrestlingNews.com Sacrifice Roundtable. I've looked through the land to find the top TNA columnists on the website to talk about tonight's big pay-per-view, featuring Samoa Joe defending the TNA World Heavyweight Championship against Big Poppa Pump Scott Steiner and Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle. Here's who we have: Newton Gimmick - Editor and author of the Professor's Position as well as the Professor's Podcast. Talon Thorne - Master debater, the teacher man and author of TNA 101. Brandon Vokac - Coulmnist and overall man on the scene. MNM Mikey - The newest columnist and contributor set to debut next week. Kurt Angle vs. Samoa Joe (c) vs. Scott Steiner Newton Gimmick - I'm a big fan of Scott Steiner. Always have been. TNA has managed to turn back the clock and get Steiner back into the badass that he was in WCW. Which is great all around. Steiner's promos the past few weeks have been golden and he's cracking people with lead pipes again. All is good. Angle and Joe still have their thing and it's been taken in a new direction. I think this is going to be a show stealing match. All three of these guys are hard hitting technical bruisers. I would expect a really awesome match out of the three, with Joe going on strong as he has been the past few weeks. Winner: Samoa Joe Talon Thorne - Out of the matches announced for Sacrifice, I am least excited for this one. While I like all the characters of all three men I know that Kurt Angle is injured and to me, Steiner is pretty stale in the ring. With Kevin Nash in Samoa Joe’s corner, Frank Trigg on commentary for Kurt Angle and Rick Steiner making an appearance at Sacrifice for his brother, let’s just hope there is a clean finish to the match. Winner: Samoa Joe Brandon Vokac - I Think that this should be a solid match but I'm not to happy with how they booked it. I don't like that when Joe won the title it wasn't made out to be a big deal. Anyway, I expect Rick Steiner, Frank Trigg, and Kevin Nash to get involved some how but I can't see them taking the belt off of Joe for a long time. Winner: Samoa Joe MNM Mikey - I didn't know Angle was injured (until now). Scott hasn't seemed to gotten any better (mic wise) in the ring, but I'm glad he's a little more 'opened' in TNA (isn't everyone tho?). Even with Angle's injury I think there's a nice formula for some HUGE spots and seriously fast paced action. I think this match is supposed to be a big obstacle for Joe (being his first title defense...err 2nd) but they really haven't built it up enough for a pseudo-2v1 type thing. Should be a good match, lack of build IMO tho. Angle got his shot (and he's injured too), I'd say Scott v. Joe, Angle Special Ref. They could really play on the respect Joe and Angle have and have Scott dis Angle in the match causing him to lose in a semi-clean finish. Winner: Samoa Joe Makeover Battle Royal (Winner gets a Knockouts Title Shot while the runner up gets her head shaved; Gail Kim is immune) Gail Kim, ODB, Roxxi Laveaux, Jacqueline Moore, Christy Hemme, Traci Brooks, Angelina Love, Velvet Sky and Salinas Newton Gimmick - Some people have said this match is complex. It doesn't seem that way to me. I mean, it's a battle royal, then when it comes to the final two, it's a ladder match. Not much different then the Gauntlet matches TNA has been running for 5 years now. The only added stipulation is the loser of the final portion gets their head shaved. No idea who's getting their head shaved though. Only person I could see is ODB or Jackie. Winner: Gail Kim Talon Thorne - This match is complex and would confuse a non-TNA fan, however I know that TNA Fans are the smartest of them all and can withstand the rules. While I understand the rules, I do think TNA needs to simplify that just to appease the TNA Critics and to help the casual fans understand the match. Finally it doesn’t make sense for the runner up to the match to get her head shaved when it would make more sense for the first one eliminated to get her head shaved. I would have changed the match into a 4-way, 5-way or 6-way Knockouts Match and eliminate the whole Ladder and Battle Royal Stipulation. The winner would still get the Knockouts Title Shot while the Knockout who got pinned would get her head shaved. You could also still have the immunity match on iMPACT where the person who won immunity would not be able to be pinned. Just for example we make this match a 5-way, let’s have Gail Kim, ODB, Roxxi Laveaux, Angelina Love and Velvet Sky as the competitors. Winner: Gail Kim while Angelina Love gets her head shaved. Brandon Vokac -This should be a very interesting match, seeing how someone will get their head shaved bald. I think that in an interesting twist it will come down to Gail Kim & ODB with ODB expecting Gail to let her win so she won't get her head shaved and the third runner up will (probably Angelina Love or Velvet Sky). I see the two of them putting on a heck of match and expect there to be some kind of interference. Winner: Gail Kim while ODB gets her head shaved. MNM Mikey - I, personally, don't find the rules confusing at all. Winner gets title shot, runner up gets head shaved, if Gail is runner up it's the 3rd place winner.....Ok maybe that's not as clear as it is in my head. Oh well. Although it's slightly confusing I'm glad they did this 'gimmick' match that was something other than "strip off ur cloths and we'll pick the winner" (a la WWE). And after the excellent sheers-on-a-pole match this Thursday I'm actually excited to see this match. Plus I've been racking my brain as to who they'd have go bald. If you'll pardon my list of who and why now: -Gail Kim: never thought it was her, and now it won't be -ODB: it's possible, she IS supposed to be like trailer park or something. -Roxxi: ehh, I donno she's getting a push and don't voodoo queens always have hair? -Jacqueline: here's my pick for 'loser'. She always wears a hat and hardly wrestles anyways! -Christy: she's got a real life rock band, and she's a red head, no happening. -Traci: they've finally remade her look/gimmick and I don't think they're going to change it again so quickly. -Angelina Love: you mean the only other real "adult" star besides Christy? Nah, she's the pretty one of "The beautiful people". -Velvet Sky: another favorite, if she loses it would create a story of Love staying in the stable cuz Sky would be 'ugly' now and they could feud. -Salinas: even though she's usually seen wrapped in a Mexican flag and thus we wouldn't realize she actually shaved her head for at least a couple of weeks, I still say no because they don't want to take away from the attention of LAX in the tag division with Hector. Winner: Roxxi, runnerup: (you HAVE to make me pick don't u?) Velvet Sky Deuce’s Wild Tournament for the Vacant Tag Team Titles: Featuring LAX, Team 3D, Christian Cage and Rhino, Super Eric and AJ Styles, Matt Morgan and Kip James, James Storm and Sting, Robert Roode, Booker T, Awesome Kong and BG James (Kong, BG, Roode and Booker T will be paired up randomly) Newton Gimmick - Meh, call me a mark but I love the Lethal Lottery tournament. Always have. TNA can't do an exact Lethal Lottery, so they swapped it up and made it 1/2 Lethal Lottery, 1/2 normal teams. I'm down for that, though I found it odd that the actual tag teams had to qualify. That said the matches in this tournament have been AWESOME thus far. Seriously, for weeks TNA has had some of the best tag team matches going. I'm not sure the point of having Kong in this, but as long as her team doesn't win, I don't care. I'd love to see LAX get a big win over say, Sting and Morgan in the finals. But I gotta be honest, I have no idea who's going to win. Purely random selection and say LAX. Winner: LAX Talon Thorne - 7 Tournament matches made from 8 different teams (4 established teams and 4 makeshift teams). First of all I would like to say that I like the Deuce’s Wild Concept since doing a normal tournament right after the King of the Ring would only hurt the Tournament Concept in crossover fan’s eyes. I don’t know all 8 teams but figure that BG James will teams with Awesome Kong while Booker T teams with Robert Roode. I also think it would be funny for Roode and Kong to team up, lose and have Kong Awesome Bomb Roode out of anger since Roode is verbally abusive towards women. There are a few teams that I think have a legit chance to win this tournament. First of all, LAX have regained their edge and have added Hector Guerrero to their little family. Rhino and Christian Cage have reformed their friendship and created an exciting tag team. Also while I don’t like Super Eric teaming with AJ Styles, the team is interesting to say the least. Don’t discount Team 3D or any of the makeshift teams in this tourney. Winner: LAX Brandon Vokac - So with the Tag Titles vacant Jim Cornette came up with the idea for this tournament for the titles and while I must say at first I thought that this might backfire on TNA's part, but I've gotten more interested in it the past two weeks. With them actually pushing the Tag Teams, I think that this might help put the Tag Division back on the map for TNA. I think that with the way they've been pushing LAX, they will come out on top. I think you will see Kong team up with Roode and she'll get mad after losing in the first round (b/c he won't let her wrestle in the match) and she'll power bomb him to the mat and I see Booker T. teaming up with BG James and Booker T. will turn on him after losing. The way they've been showing Booker lately makes me think he's turning heel (possibly facing Samoa Joe for the World Title in the future). Winner: LAX MNM Mikey - 7 Tournament matches made from 8 different teams (4 established teams and 4 makeshift teams). "I don't know all 8 teams but figure that BG James will teams with Awesome Kong while Booker T teams with Robert Roode. I also think it would be funny for Roode and Kong to team up, lose and have Kong Awesome Bomb Roode out of anger since Roode is verbally abusive towards women." That is epic! I like the concept, but as we've already seen (and are sure to see more of) heel/face teaming. Kong IS a wild card tho, but she's still a heel. BG's only other feud was with Kip so yea I see him and Kong teaming. I don't really have a favorite for this match, I'm just glad it's going to be good. I haven't seen this much work and excitement going into the tag titles since.....ever! What would really be interesting is to see Roode and Kong team....and win! Talk about opposite tag team! Winner: Very tough call.....Matt Morgan/Kip James. TerrorDome Match (Escape the hole in the ceiling to earn an X Division Title Shot): Featuring Kaz, Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin, Johnny Devine, Shark Boy, Curry Man, Consequences Creed, Jimmy Rave, Sonjay Dutt and Black Machismo Newton Gimmick - I'm a little baffled that they added this match with such little hype. They should have started building this up IMMEDIATELY after the last PPV. But I think the structure will provide a lot of fun. That's what the X-Division is all about, new match types. There is some real potential for high spots here and I think we're going to see some incredible stuff. Hopefully the TerrorDome looks great. I always liked the one WCW had, but it was never used in the right kinds of matches. I'll go out on a limb and say Kaz wins, but can't beat Williams. Even though the money match is Williams/Machismo, I say Sonjay costs Black Machismo somehow, adding more tension to their feud. Winner: Kaz Talon Thorne - I like this NEW and innovative concept for TNA. The rules are that you have to climb up the inside of the dome and escape through the hole in the ceiling. The man who gets through the hole earns an X Division title shot against the injured Petey Williams when he returns. My intrigue for this match is the same for when I watched Ultimate X for the first time. If the match has enough time progress, it could be VERY good. Let’s hope that it is. While I am excited for this match I am boggled by its origins. Jim Cornette created this match to punish wrestlers who ticked him off. When did any of the competitors in this match piss Cornette off with the exception of Jimmy Rave. Either change the origin of the match or change the participants into the ones you want to get back at. The name of the structure could be better as well. Winner: Jay Lethal Brandon Vokac - I think that this will not only be the best match of the night but a match of the year candidate. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't advertise it better. They didn't even let you know who was in the match until this past Thursday. Anyway, this should be an awesome match the will provided us with some sick moves off of the cage and from the top. Winner: Kaz MNM Mikey - I'm still in the air about this match. Cage looks cool, and new, and different, but I wanna see how the finish goes. Other than that I think this match has some great makings, simply because it's the X-division. My only quarrel could be if the cage gets too much in the way of seeing the moves and stuff, but I doubt that. Structure name is a questionable one, it borders on 'lame' and 'cool'. Origin's questionable as well, but that won't matter next time around I'm sure. Only thing I would do is add some cameras in the top of the cage to give us a different view. Winner: Curry Man Well there you have it, our predictions for this Sunday's Sacrifice pay-per-view. A huge tournament to crown new tag team champions. A brand new X-Division match that will be high risk. A knockouts battle royal/ladder match where the loser gets her HEAD shaved! And the three way main event between the three biggest badasses in TNA. ORDER THE PPV! As always you can leave me feedback at ProfNewtonGimmick@yahoo.com. This article has been viewed 37 times.
