TNA “Sacrifice” PPV report
By MnM
Ok, so everyone’s got their feelings on the PPV, and maybe you don’t even want to read mine, that is Ok since I cannot control your eyeballs. But since I’m still trying to get a few of you to warm up to me, I’ll continue to throw some ‘MnM’ flavor at you and see what sticks. So without further rambling (we’ll save that for later), onward fair stead!
-3D def. Sting/James Storm: I personally liked the finish; Sting never really plays that ‘goody goody’ face, which is exactly how the non-surfer Sting should.
-Christian Cage/Rhino def. Booker T/Robert Roode: Pretty good match, I think CC did a lot, as he usually does. I think Booker and Roode should have gotten into some shoves matches or something. There were other ways to turn Booker heel, but this wasn’t bad.
-LAX def. Kip James/Matt Morgan: I’m still not that impressed with Morgan, I want to see him in some singles matches. This slot would have been better served to have Morgan and Kip start a feud and fight for the first time, for real.
-AJ Styles/Super Eric def. BG James/Awesome Kong: Overall I thought this match was pretty good, I liked the pairing and it seemed to work really well. I’m glad AJ wasn’t man (woman?) handled like a knockout, it felt a little more real.
-3D def. Christian Cage/Rhino: Decent match, you could tell these guys were tired though. I’m still in the air about the finish as I was glad that Johnny Devine had broken away back on his own in the X division.
-LAX def. AJ Styles/Super Eric: Seeing Super Eric match up against Hernandez actually made him see a little ‘super’. Decent match but a couple of key botches.
-LAX def. 3D: This I am glad for. They’re still young and there’s a LOT of talent between those two guys. I originally thought they might double cross Hector Guerraro, which might still be in the works, but I was glad to see him get his hands dirty a little bit. (Side note: is it me or does Brother Ray NEVER get pinned O.o)
I really praised the Deuces Wild tournament, I’d like to take that back now. Thank you. The concept is pretty nice, really random and sure to really mix things up. But the actually play out was just as scripted as any veteran would have guessed. I had hoped against this predicable outcome, but those hopes were dashed. I’m not against TNA doing this again, but actually making it random would be the only remedy.
-TerrorDome match: Just as I thought, it was a great match. PLENTY of high spots and everyone seemed to get a turn as doing something that made you say “OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!” I, personally, wasn’t hot on the color (red) but then again the most obvious alternative would have been black. Which management probably felt like it looked too much like the Elimination Chamber, so I don’t really blame them for that.
I’m glad Kaz got the #1 contender spot. He held his own against Kurt Angle a few months back, and I’ve really been feeling like he’s got some serious talent and they need to bring him out. He’s really become his own after leaving Serotonin, and I think they should focus on that a little more.
-Knockout battle royal: After watching the pole match on iMPACT I was really excited for this match, but it feel horribly short. There was almost no high spots at all until the ladder part began, and even then it was more about Angelina and Velvet screwing over Roxxi (yes, we’re all on first name basis’s now).
The only thing the battle royal did was give Angelina motive to screw over Roxxi, it was not exciting. The ladder match was lame, completely one sided. I would have been fine if Angelina screwed Roxxi with a chair shot or something, but it was like a 2 on 1 practically. What this did for the story was fine. Roxxi will now begin to focus on feuding with The Beautiful People, and Gail will go on to, hopefully, win the title back. But this was one ugly bump in the road to all of that, more on that later.
-TNA World Title Triple Threat: Joe gets the win after a pretty exciting match that had the challenges doing a lot of work.
I think most people knew Joe was going to win. Kaz could be viewed as a lame replacement after Kurt Angle’s injury, but with how much talent that guy has he was a great fill-in. As much as I like Kaz, I think this should have been a 1v1 match then. Maybe even changed to a submission only match (sleeper vs Steiner Recliner), in honor of Angle. None the less, I think I would have liked to have seen a 1v1 match anyways because the feast of fire case was used for the shot for Scott. It was a good match, it’s just the premise surrounding it kind of bugged me.
So back to the ‘makeover battle royal’. I knew there were only a few women who would have been willing to shave their head, Roxxi being one of them. Professor Newton’s got a nice rant about the fans so I’m not going to delve too much into the “Fire Russo” chants from the head shaving. First off, even though I knew who was going to get it shaved since they were not letting the eye candy of Angelina Love to be harmed, and since Gail had immunity, the only person was Roxxi. Still, I actually began to feel pretty emotional (not THAT emotional, geeez) about Roxxi’s head shave. The other knockouts really played into it, feeling sorry and trying to support her, and Angelina and Velvet really played their heel parts right, laughing and playing with her shaved hair. What really gets me is that people STILL think wrestling is THAT real. I mean do you think they REALLY would have forced a female into shaving her head? There is no way that would happen, even with the men. Every single time there’s been some sort of head shaving stipulation the recipient has always been willing. Those Orlando fans must have been the same fans who thought that at Wrestle Mania 23, the hair vs. hair match, that Donald Trump would have ACTUALLY shaved his head. Riiiight. I’m not quite sure what caused you to act in such manor towards a WRITER, not even the man in control. But clearly it’s misplaced anger. You were SUPPOSED to be made at Angelina Love and Velvet Sky, this was really supposed to help their heel status. Maybe you’re attitude will change in the coming weeks as Roxxi begins feuding with them. Then again maybe the internet will become full of truth telling, nice people. Maybe.
