The Professor's Position on BOUND FOR GLORY IV
TOMORROW IS BOUND FOR GLORY: Welcome again to the Countdown to Glory, we're in the final hours before the biggest pay-per-view in TNA history. I'll be there live in attendance tomorrow for what should be an exciting show that's stacked top to bottom with more action, stars and excitement than any TNA PPV in the time since the company began in 2002. We're looking at an all star lineup of first time match-ups, huge storylines and implications that will transform the landscape of Total Non-Stop Action through the new year. Bound For Glory IV The Matches: Rundown of the Card TNA Championship Match - Samoa Joe (c) vs. Sting I must confess I'm really excited for this one. Being there live, I'm still not sure who I'm cheering for (And I'm conflicted on if I'll wear my Sting T-Shirt or my Joe T-Shirt) and I think the storyline is one that's really helped to shape a shade of gray within myself. In the past few months Sting has been delivering promo after promo that have been some of the best of his career. Since in TNA, Sting has had some incredible matches and has proven himself to be more than just a veteran who's looking for a easy payday. His comments about Hogan and how unlike a lot of people in the industry he's man enough to admit that Hogan paved the way really struck a chord with me. Sting really is all about respect. Joe on the other hand has had some great points and he's right that Sting hasn't worked the house shows and is getting more money than he's honestly earning in the ring. I'm very conflicted. On one hand I think Joe needs the big win here and I think that's right for the company, on the other hand... I really want to see Sting pull it out one more time and prove that legends do have a place in this industry. I think myself, like many fans in Chicago are going to decide who to route for as the action goes on in the ring. I'd expect the roof to blow off for this match and I applaud TNA for running a huge face versus face main event storyline. TNA Grudge Match Special Enforcer: Mick Foley - Jeff Jarrett vs. Kurt Angle When it comes to big matches, they don't get any bigger than this. Imagine for a moment if you will, Jeff Jarrett a man who's wrestled everyone, Hogan, Sting, Flair, Luger, Macho, HBK, Bret Hart, Lawler, Austin, you name it he's been in the ring with them and beat most of them. Now think of Kurt Angle, he's been in the ring with Austin, Lesnar, Cena, Batista, HBK, Hogan and he's beat most if not all of them. Yet despite these two men's huge laundry list of accolades and nearly 30 World Championships between then, NEITHER man has ever faced each other before. That's simply incredible. Toss in a great backstory with Angle feeling that Jarrett is trying to take back over his spot and Jarrett feeling that Angle has betrayed him and TNA, you've got one of the hottest matches and angles in TNA HISTORY! I'm an old school Jarrett fan and have been ever since I used to go to USWA shows and there's no doubt who I'll be pulling for this Sunday. I expect a real classic between these two greats, two men who are without a doubt the total package in wrestler and both are some of the best technical wrestlers to ever grace the squared circle. TNA X-Division Championship Match - Sheik Abdul Bashir (c) vs. Consequences Creed Although this match has several months of storylines, including Bashir's hatred for America and belief that Creed is everything that's wrong with America, as well as the side story of Consequences Creed coming within striking distance of the title several times just to be denied at the last second... I only have a moderate interest in this match. I'm glad that TNA is featuring the X-Division title in a relatively high profile match, but this is the match I'm probably least interested in tomorrow. Hopefully these two blow me away with in-ring action, to which I know both men are capable. TNA Knockout Women's Championship Match - Taylor Wilde (c) vs. Awesome Kong vs. Roxxi I can't tell you how utterly impressed with Taylor Wilde I am. Not only is she drop dead gorgeous and a total short cutie, her in-ring skills impress me every time out. This past week on iMPACT she shined again and I really can't give this girl enough praise. It's probably unfair for me to compare her to Stratus, but she definitely reminds me of Trish in more ways than one and I think she's probably the most solid woman's wrestler on the roster, aside from Kong. Speaking of Kong, she's been chasing the belt for a while and I think the monster is looking to come unglued. I'd expect this match to go a bit hardcore, especially with the recent focus on Roxxi's hardcore antics. I like Roxxi and although I feel she may be a tad overrated, she definitely is underutilized and I'm glad to see her in another big match situation. Can she finally make it to the top? Tough to say, but I'll be pulling for Wilde even though I expect her to drop the title. Monster's Ball Tag Team Match For The TNA Tag Team Championship Special Guest Referee: Steve "Mongo" McMichael - Beer Money, Inc. (c) vs. LAX vs. Team 3D vs. Abyss & Matt Morgan Mongo? Really? Awesome. Mongo is a total gimme to the Chicago fans who'll probably love the big lug. For what it's worth I've always felt McMichael was a good student of the game and better than given credit for, but is far from an all time great. I love the new Abyss character and I really can't say enough about him. I also like that this match is for the titles. I have no idea who will win and that's giving a lot of credit to TNA's booking. Usually in a match like this you have a good idea of where things are going, but here, no one has any clue. It could go any way, but I think we're going to see some serious hardcore action and the Chi-Town fans are going to love it. Triple-Threat Match - AJ Styles vs. Christian Cage vs. Booker T I was pulling for a Booker/Jay Lethal match, but I can't get everything I want. Here we have a nice little story, and three fine workers. Cage is nobody's lackey while Booker is fighting for respect and AJ is hoping to prove that he's not just a TNA original, he's a main event star. I'd love to see AJ come away with the win here and I hope that he does. It'd be quite fitting for Bound for Glory. Knockout Bimbo Brawl Special Referee: Traci Brooks - Rhino, Rhaka Khan & ODB vs. Beautiful People & Cute Kip Okay, so call me crazy but I like Kute Kip and the Beautiful People. For once Kip James is interesting! I think this will be a fun match and although I question putting Rhaka Khan in such a high profile contest, I understand that the women's roster is small and it's time she earn her keep. This should be fun, crazy and short and inoffensive. The Steel Asylum Match - X Division workers will battle inside the steel dome structure My first TNA pay-per-view live and I'm getting the coolest gimmick match in TNA? YES! I love that TNA has pulled out all the stops for this BFG IV and this match for the #1 contendership to the X-Division title is going to be a blast. I'd expect this early in the show. Will Suicide show up and win? Will Curryman get his time to shine? Jay Lethal? There's no concrete announcement on the participants but it's pretty obvious everyone who's in the X-Divison and not on the card is in this match. I expect a lot of high spots, death defying moves and undoubtedly a fun time to be had by all. RETRO BOUND FOR GLORY: Bound for Glory III This is a rewind recap look at the past Bound for Glory events with my thoughts. Last year's Bound For Glory took place on October 14, 2007 at the Gwinnett Center in the Atlanta suburb of Duluth, Georgia. It was an important show pitting two of the biggest stars in wrestling against each other and marked TNA's entrance into one of the old WCW territories. My thoughts below: LAX versus Triple X in an ULTMATE X Match -This was an incredible contest and really was the last hurrah for Triple X. This was also I believe the first tag Ultimate X match. It was an incredible bout and the LAX victory really cemented them as one of the top tag teams in wrestling, as well as the future of the genre. Fight for the Right Reverse Battle Royal -Eric Young beat Robert Roode in the final, sadly I don't remember much of this. Which sort of shows you it was a wasted opportunity. Styles/Tomko versus Truth & Consequences -Consequences Creed's debut came as a result of Pacman Jones not being able to wrestle. Despite the ridiculousness with Pacman, this was a VERY good match. Had Truth not got released a few weeks later this could have led to a good tag team. As it is, I'll take Creed over Truth and this was a fun if forgettable tag title match. Jay Lethal (c) versus Christopher Daniels -A great X-Division title match and a good showing for Jay Lethal. Although this didn't have the storyline or structure that make it a classic, it's still a great contest to watch where they did most of the story telling in the ring. The Steiner Brothers versus Team 3D -This was one of the biggest matches on the card and remains one of the biggest matches in TNA history. Steiners and 3D had never really crossed paths before and based off a huge feud, including a brief sideline at Slammaversary that saw Animal substitute for an injured Scott Steiner, we saw two great teams go at it. This was as good as a tag match as any two teams can produce and although the tables and two out of three element didn't add a ton to the bout, it made for a fun and memorable night as the Steiners cemented their legacy as greater than Team 3D. TNA Women's Gauntlet for the Gold to crown FIRST TNA Knockout Champion -Scary to think this was only a year ago. This battle royal was the first of many great Knockouts matches to come. The best division in TNA was created this night and no better champion could have been crowned than Gail Kim. Interesting to note that Roxxi was the last person Gail beat and one year later she's moved up the ranks to be fighting for the gold herself. Monster's Ball: Abyss versus Raven versus Rhino versus Black Reign -Abyss has to re-enter this environment this year, but last year he was very famialr with it. With Jake Roberts as the special referee, we saw a wild, bloody brawl that lived up to the Monster's Ball name. This was a last rites of sorts for Raven and we saw a former winner of the match Rhino, nearly come away with the win again. But it was Abyss who ultimately received victory. Can he do it again a year later after getting psychiatric treatment? We'll see tomorrow. Samoa Joe versus Christian Cage -Cage believed he was unbeatable and was going to defeat Joe, while Joe felt he needed this win to truly crack the glass ceiling. Cage had never truly pinned or submitted up to this point, but Samoa Joe left no stone unturned and ultimately proved himself the best by defeating Christian Cage and setting his sights on the TNA World Championship. TNA World Championship: Sting versus Kurt Angle (C) -Simply put, this was the biggest match TNA had housed up to this point. The men delivered a fast paced, back and fourth near 20 minute classic. Angle looked to retain, but it was Sting who for the second year in a row overcame the odds and defeated Kurt Angle to become TNA World Champion. Sunday night Sting looks to make it 3 in a row. Last year Sting was able to do the impossible and win two World Title main events at Bound For Glory back to back. He's developed a bit of a Undertaker-like streak at these events and he's looking to do it again tomorrow. Can he? I'll be there live to see it all happen. YOU should join me or order it on pay-per-view. The Wrap Up: Bound For Glory IV is tomorrow and expect my full report Monday with pictures and plenty of exclusive notes. I'll be there in attendance and I can't wait. ORDER THE PPV! Finally, on an unrelated note... If you find yourself at a political rally and the speaker is talking about how God has chose this candidate, the crowd is filled with people shouting racist remarks and everyone around you is promoting fear, intolerance and hate, I sincerely hope you realize that America isn't supposed to be like that and you cast your ballot for the other guy this November. We can make our country great again, but lies, smears and racism shouldn't be the backbone of anyone's campaign and shame on those for whom it is. Love me? Hate me? Let me know at ProfNewtonGimmick@yahoo.com. In the meantime and the in-between time, Professor out! I'LL SEE YOU AT BOUND FOR GLORY IV! This article has been viewed 713 times.
