Breaking News: AJ Styles Leaving TNA

A.J. Styles appears to be departing from TNA for the first time since the company’s formation in 2002. Styles’ current contract extension expires on the 16th of the month and he will be a free agent after that; he has already begun taking independent bookings.

Styles and TNA reportedly couldn’t come to terms on money; with the company trying to cut costs, the two sides have had a wide gulf in the amount of money they wanted the deal to be for and despite the two-month extension signed in October, they were unable to work things out. TNA was unable to offer Styles what he had been making and Styles, who felt he was a big part of the company and its brand, wouldn’t agree to a lesser deal.

The departure of Styles has reportedly “sent a bad signal” to other TNA originals who have deals coming up; the message is that the company will lose their originals if they can’t make a deal fit their financial requirements. Styles is moving forward with outside projects such as his autobiography and his participation in a speaking tour of the UK next year.

More as we get it.

what a shame if aj leave tna without a new contract

  2. gar2233 says:

why cant aj and tna get a new contract done?
    pay him tna

  3. andy3323 says:

So are independent bookings or ROH going to pay him what TNA was, or that much more?

It'll be interesting to see if we see any more videos 'brought to us by the friends of AJ' past this week, or not. Just seems odd that anyone would pay more, unless he was going to the WWE or this is a work.

    • James says:

Actually many indies pay more then TNA. Matt Hardy gets paid $15,000 per shot in ROH, he wasn’t making more then $5,000 a shot in TNA. Bryan Danielson did an interview where he even said that he could make more money on the indies then what TNA was going to pay him. Joe has even stated that ROH paid more then TNA a few times

      • jbcissom says:

You are freaking clueless. If RoH was able to pay TNA talents that much more, then Joe and several others would have jumped once their recent contracts were up.

I'm thinking you have a brain, use it. Why sign with a company that pays less and prohibits you from other forms of income. This shows your stupidity or the wrestlers.

        • Bigmike885 says:

well…gosh..actually It makes sense. ROH doesn't run that many shows, so yes..i can see the pay structure working. TNA offered a steady paycheck..they may make more money annually, but in short bursts ROH could pay more.

          • andy3323 says:

They must have an owner with deep pockets then, because if you don't run many shows and you don't bring in a ton of income from merchandise, where do you make your money?

          • Bigmike885 says:

Sinclair broadcasting is very large. Not billions. But lots of cash.Sent from my iPhone

          • jbcissom says:

For real, use what common sense you do have. I'm going to stay employed for a company instead of going to option "B" and make more money and provide a better living for myself…

If you are correct, then that shows how idiotic and stupid today's wrestlers really are. And while these guys and gals do take some shots to the head, I seriously doubt that the likes of Samoa Joe (married), Ken Anderson (married and expecting child), Madison Rayne (married with one child), and Gail Kim (married) would have all stayed on the indy scene or went to RoH instead of going/staying with TNA.

  4. UCEAD11 says:

I am almost expecting the chairs to fold up at this point for TNA….you let the face of TNA go. I dont understand that. You drop hogan and bischoff who were a ton of money to begin with and still cant give AJ a workable contract. Are u kidding me ?

  5. Dartvada says:

I do not believe this. Just a site reporting bs

  6. DJBIGCG says:

There really is no telling if aj styles is really going to leave tna or not. But let's just say aj shows up in wwe, I honestly think tna will eventually fold. Vkm might end up buying tna too

  7. Cezar_TheScribe says:

This has been reported on a few other sites.

    This is from Wikipedia:
On December 8, it was reported that contract negotiations between Styles and TNA had broken down and that Styles would be leaving the promotion becoming a free agent effective December 17.

I hope TNA and AJ can work something out. Not sure if this is possible at this time.

  8. hangers says:

I understand from TNA's perspective as they are almost starting from scratch again after Hogan & Bischoff's great plans for expansion fell flat as expected.. As long as they can make the show entertaining with the talent they can afford for now that should be their number 1 priority..

    • jbcissom says:

Exactly. I became a fan of AJ's, but he's not the end all, be all. Hardy has better merch sales. Sting brings the worldwide recognition. Angle does the same. Roode and Storm are much better on the mic.

Whatever is going on, I'll be a fan of AJ's, but TNA will live on without him.

    • dcxbox says:

that was not a hogan bishoff plan at all though. that plan was already in works and happening before. jeff jarret and dixie planned doing that for even earlier than they did.

  9. ViceyThaShizzle says:

Is this a sign of things to come?

  10. TwIsTeD_EnEmY says:

    What the hell TNA???

  11. HolsG says:

I'm actually really gutted to hear this!
TNA should be ashamed of themselves, AJ is the one who built the company to where it is and they can't even give him what he wants/deserves. Get rid of the some of the crap talent:
Norv and Dewey – they're a joke and there's no one they can have a good match with as they're too small
Wrestlers we haven't seen for ages like Chavo (i know he was at the feast or fired promo)
    Kenny King
    King Mo
I'd prefer to see all of these gone to keep AJ!!

  12. Zxspectrum says:

If it’s true it’s a big mistake on tna’s part. I would love for him to go to wwe though. It’s a great time for an anti establishment stable with Bryan and punk. Maybe even the new 4 horseman?

  13. TheMiwyun says:

Blates a part of the ongoing storyline… fucks sake

    • tnadude says:

      ^^^ Exactly ^^^

Scary I had to read through all the comments above before I found some common sense.

AJ isn't going anywhere. It's likely part of a greater storyline where TNA couldn't afford his services so someone else (i.e. Jeff Jarrett) is going to pay him instead. And he will show up on Impact again. And he'll be bringing Jeff Hardy with him…

  14. Pablo says:

AJ Styles may be on the WCWF.

“Contact Info: Russian Entertainment Monthly Release

2013 Russian Billionaire Starts US Based Wrestling

Yekaterinburg – Secretive Turkish born, Russian Billionaire Investor

Imanech Homonovich has backed a Hollywood, California (USA) based

    organisation calling themselves

‘The World Championship Wrestling Federation’. The

    investors’ initial

investment is said to be a Seven figure sum. One can only assume this would make him a Majority

Shareholder in the company. The company has already

    signed Five of the biggest

Wrestling history to short term contracts. The company

is holding an inaugural press conference

    sometime in June 2014 when

    States directly

    show which also airs

    on Monday Nights.”

  15. Lafume100 says:

Aj styles has done everything in tna multiple times its time for him to leave so much fresh young talent we will always have phenomenal memories but we cant live in the past.

  16. Lafume100 says:

Wrestling is a business if aj doesn't want to do whats best for survival of tna he should be gone we always complain about Dixie not knowing what she is doing, well obviously she does making tough unpopular decisions hogan is gone so is Aj and hopefully Hardy. They need fresh faces Magnus, Shaw, Bradley and think about if Daniels has never had a world title run why do u think that is….. AJ STYLES!!!!

  17. iamanadult says:

    I'm not watching magnus lol

  18. XcluZive says:

I seen this coming. TNA will crash in burn. This what happens when you have someone like Dixie Carter as the figure head of the company. TNA messed up by trying to look big time from day one. When you try to look and be something your not it will catch up to you sooner or later. Can you be fake for so long. ECW was true to themselves is why fans loved them. If TNA stayed true to there budget they would have a much bigger fan base then they would of been able to grow and actually be a major top dog. Dixie will be better off begging Donald Trump to buy TNA to have 2 billionaires Vince and Trump compete for ratings and bragging rights and have Eric run it. This is the worse news I've ever seen on this site. It pisses me off to been a fan from day one just to have it basically end like this to lose your franchise player. WHAT A JOKE SMH

  19. Ajutony1217 says:

They want to cut cost start with getting rid of all the ex wwe talent and wrestlers over 40 and washed up.

  20. nelson says:

There are four promotions with natioal tv deals

    ROH with Sinclair

    TNA with Spike

    TCW on the Pursuit channel

The market is oversaturated and the supply outweighs the demand. That is why TNA is going under and why they are making cut backs. WWE would have little use fror AJ, ROH would defo give AJ some work but without a contract. TCW would have very little use for AJ.

AJ’s best bet is to either find work in japan or he could get into promoting wrestling himself.

  21. MelMan says:

I would like to a heel stable that consist of bobby rood, Magnus, Aries n bad influence I think these guys would make a big impact in tna n the wrestling world n probably with da managerial guidance of jeff Jarrett.

  22. JoeWrestling says:

It should send a "bad signal” to other TNA originals. A lot of them have been getting paid a lot for which they haven't been drawing for the company. They should have a vested interest in making money for the company and not just doing their job. Because at the end of the day, whether it's possible for them to draw enough money or not in TNA to justify a large salary, there are probably some young stars that would love to put in the same effort for less pay and attempt to draw money for this company, whether they fail or not at the end of the day. And it's not like TNA would simply take advantage of people. TNA is obviously willing to pay a lot of money for guys who prove they can draw.
