Dixie Carter: Hulk Hogan Is Bigger Than Elvis Presley

Dixie Carter: Hulk Hogan Is Bigger Than Elvis Presley is featuring an interview with TNA President Dixie Carter where she talks about the name value of Hulk Hogan and how he is one of the most recognizable faces ever.

“He (Hulk) is bigger than any brand, company, name – he is synonymous with wrestling and is probably one of the most recognisable faces or figures on the entire planet. Name me someone who is alive today who’d be more recognisable in any corner of the world? In places like Africa and Asia, or if you were walking in Thailand? Princess Diana or Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley maybe? But they aren’t even with us anymore. The Rock? ‘Well, if you are walking in a village in Africa would people know who The Rock was? I think his film work has been outstanding. I’m a huge fan of The Rock, I think he is phenomenal, but would that happen?”

I love Dixie but this is going to bite her in the ass later (btw I would bite her ass too) This will make her look like that she doesn't know what she's talking about and the Africa part with the Rock……..Kinda Racist-ish.

    • tigerpie says:

HOw is that Kinda-Racist? its not even close to being racist????

    • nwoforlife says:

hulk hogan is the bigest thing in wrestling over all hes done more for the biz then anyone our 10 guys combined would not been wrestlemania if not for hulk ( cable would not have shown wrestlemania unless hulk was on the first 3 wrestlemania and they had to have it in writing ) now that said sorry hulk hogan but Elvis is bigger then you our anyone on the planet ever but props to Dixie for believing in the hulk

      • Philly_Cheese says:

I think Dixie is drinking way to much of Hulk's Kool-Aid if she honestly believes he's bigger than Elvis… There won't be people believing Hogan is still alive after he's dead… People don't walk around dressed like Hogan, and impersonate him for a living… His home isn't enshrined like Elvis' home is… Hogan doesn't have dozens of postage stamps made of him across the world… Flat out Elvis is more popular and well known than Hogan has ever been, even at the height of his career.

        • ricky_No1 says:

Oh i agree with you 100%. This hogan tinted glasses she wears is the reason TNA will never be any bigger. She really needs to smell the coffee

          • annil8or4321 says:

no she needs to smell what the rock is cooking jk, side note yes she is nice to look at

          • Philly_Cheese says:

She needs to realize that she needs to get more involved. It seems like she wants everyone else to run the show, but honestly you can't let the inmates run the asylum. She needs to do two things, overlook everything and say flat out no to some stuff that's clearly stupid. Secondly she needs to get more involved in the TV aired stuff, some of the stuff she's been in has drawn massive ratings. The last time she was actually on TV and did something storyline involved (announcing the fake court results between her and hogan), the segment cleared a 1.5 in ratings. How does she not see any of this?

  2. Treck says:

I love Dixie myself. She is a very kind and sweet heart. But what she says is redicolous. I respect Hogan for what he has done. But by no mean is he even close to Elvis’s stature. I am not a big fan of Elvis but come on. Elvis! Dixie as much as I think she is awesome. Sounds ridiculous here.

I know I'm going to catch a lot of heat for this, and honestly, I don't care. Hogan is a has been, perhaps the biggest has been of all time. Does he still have a house hold name? Yes, but what is that house hold name providing TNA? To some it up, nothing. Sure he's done some spots on ESPN and radio where he has talked about the show and the company. But again, what has that brought to TNA? Again, the answer is nothing. He hasn't provided ratings. He hasn't provided added revenue. He has, admittedly, provided feedback to a lot of the TNA regulars, but again, what benefit has that provided to the company? None. There have been one show where his name alone convinced fans to tune in, and that was his company debut. Maybe one other show tops. But that comes in a 3 year period of time. And I'm not saying any of this because I'm hating on Hogan. While I'm not a fan of his, I do understand and appreciate hius contribution to the industry as a whole. He's right in the fact that he helped change wrestling into what it is today. No argument with that. The simple fact is though that he is no longer as big of a draw or attraction as he used to be or as what he leads others to believe he still is. TNA is heading towards it's 12th year, and the facts remain that the company is caught in a rut. They've gone live, they've taken Impact on the road, and, IMO, they've made some big changes both in the front office and creatively. But the company is just spinning it's wheels at this point. Now I'm not saying that this is Hogan's fault, not at all, but the truth is that Dixie needs to see through the hype and realize that her (or her parents) dollars could be better spent elsewhere within the company than on Hogan. Or even Sting for that matter, and believe me, I'm a huge Sting fan. The money spent on the 2 of them alone could be spent on more advertising to help promote the show and reach new fans. Many of us on this site have spoken on how it would be wise for the company to advertise on other stations besides Spike. If you never watch Spike, how are you going to know about Impact? Short answer, you're not. Look, Hogan has earned his place in history. He's built a legacy for himself in the business that will never be eclipsed, but the time has come for TNA and Hogan to part ways. Put the emphasis on the guys who are in the ring. The guys who are trying to make a name for themselves. Time for Hogan to go home, write a book or two, and enjoy the time he has, because he isn't doing TNA one bit of good at this point.

    • Philly_Cheese says:

My thoughts exactly… He's done little for TNA at this point. Sure he's has a few good ideas as far as creative goes, but he hasn't done anything overly special that someone else couldn't do. Many have said in the past that Hogan doesn't draw, and the data from TNA's ticket sales and TV ratings are proof of that. Hogan has continually put himself in the spotlight, and needs to just step down and walk away. Ultimate warrior even said it himself, he's making himself look like a joke. He goes to the ring with fake extensions in his hair and just can't get out of the past. Hogan's biggest moments are all past, and the more he denies walking away the more he'll tarnish his own legacy.

  4. tigerpie says:

Hasn't the fact that Hogan has been on the show helped them to sell the show into Europe?
Also, he may not bring in extra ratings, however as you pointed out he can provide feedback / experience to the other wrestlers.this may well provide TNA with .. better (for want of a different term) wrestlers in the future and they may get better ratings as those wrestlers become stars a little quicker… or the overall product is even better in 5 years…
I'm not loving on hogan or anything, I'm just saying he may provide a hell of a lot things other then ratings that the company are happy to pay for.

    • godoftna says:

perhaps, but in that case the place for him is in OVW or elsewhere as a trainer, not on IMPACT weekly.

  5. nwoforlife says:

lets see hogan is and will always be wrestling more then any other guy out there now that said Elvis come on Elvis is more known then god is and that's true huge fan of the immortal hulk hogan but Elvis no just not their

  6. Kyle says:

Hulk Hogan is the Stan Lee of wrestling. Meaning he rode the backs of others to get popular and gain influence, then used that influence to hold control peoples careers, and take credit he didn’t deserve.

  7. TwIsTeD_EnEmY says:

I can appreciate that he is an icon, but he isn't as big as Elvis.
Hell, a friend of mine hadn't even heard of Hulk Hogan before, let alone could he recognise him.

  8. ariesstormjoe says:

the argument of who is most recogniseable is pointless imo.

what is more of a debate is how do ppl recognise certain ppl. such as the rock for example he is a big movie star. but how many ppl actually know of his wrestling history? and by know it i mean actually be able to tell you what happened when he was wrestling. if its all rock vs cena this and rock vs punk that id say that person wasnt alive in the 90s or just wasnt a fan of wrestling at that time.

hogan is connected with wrestling more imo but again who can actually say what happened to him during the 80s and 90s. did ppl watch? do ppl remember?

so to point out again. an argument about who is most recogniseable or where they are most recogniseable is pointless. but if ppl actually remember what their history is then that is not.

  9. TROOF says:

I love how TNAwrestlingnews completely flipped the headline to make Dixie say a quote that she never said. Talk about shock headlines. The point Dixie was making was that Hogan is the Michael Jordan of wrestling. That is a fact! He's had the biggest impact on the sport and had the charisma to make it part of pop culture.

  10. Mutter5 says:

Im not gonna lie… I record impact and fast forward every hogan segment…

  11. shanedraper says:

Arnold Schwarzenegger is way bigger than hulk

  12. Roid Master says:

If Elvis was still alive and under TNA contract, she would say that he is bigger than Hulk Hogan. She's trying to promote her company. That's what business people do.

  13. 2blackbelts says:

Yes, in the wrestling world, he is the most recognizable. Branching out into different fields non wrestling related, he is a smear on the page.

When you talk about company name and branding, is he more popular than Harley Davidson which was voted one of the 10 most recognizable names in the world. Is he more recognizable than the pope? I doubt it.

Here idea was clear, the message was muddied.

  14. hangers says:

I thought maybe Dixie was discussing his waistline..

As for The Rock, if TNA were to sign him, and it'll never happen in a million years, ratings would spike so much higher than Hulk could ever dream of and I would imagine on the streets of Africa he's much better known amongst most people nowadays than Hogan also…

    • tnadude says:

Rock's not an every-day wrestler. He'd need someone with a similar name recognition to feud with, or people wouldn't bother.

And, until the people in the streets of Africa start watching wrestling, I don't give a rat's hind-quarters who they recognize because their insignificant.

      • hangers says:

In terms of name value, he'd be bigger than Elvis for TNA right now though..

I honestly think Hulk's 'name value' is way overstated at the moment and he brings just as many negatives as he does positives to the finished product. I can't speak for behind the scenes though as he may be absolutely fantastic at what he does that we don't see and he's also accomplished more than I ever will, so respect to the man in that regard…

  15. donutmanbill says:

I actually agree to a point with Dixie, Hulk Hogan is the most famous wrestler of all time, he is THE icon of professional wrestling. No one was ever bigger, especially in the 80s. I don't think he's as big as Elvis, and I'm sure the youth audience would know Justin Beiber more than they know Hulk Hogan, so it all depends on the age group you are asking. Most under 16 would know John Cena more than Hulk Hogan. That is no offense to him at all. He is a legend. The same way Ric Flair is a legend. But having a famous name can only get you so far (otherwise Rent a Center would be bigger than Wal Mart considering they have Hogan and the famous football guy as their spokespeople) .
Dixie is right to stand by Hogan but I don't believe he's being used on the program in the right way. Maybe I'm the only one who feels this way but I feel kinda sad for him when he hobbles out to the ring. He'd be an excellent General Manager (which he is) and possibly doing commentary also. But they need to have more stars to attract people than simply Hulk. It's not his fault, if he went back to WWE he'd get standing ovations every night. Look at Flair's reaction when he went back to WWE compared to what he got in TNA…or even Mick Foley and Kevin Nash. That isn't their fault and it isn't TNA's fault. They just don't have the money, or the marketing power to bring in crowds like that…yet….give it some time, if they get more money and a few new stars they can overcome WWE….the TNA product is better than WWE…WWE is geared to 10 to 15 year olds who will abandon wrestling in a year or two, they don't have the same tradition that NWA and to some degree TNA has….but TNA needs a new partner with money….that's what will set them apart….but keep Hulk, he is a legit legend!

  16. OldManEaston says:

Justin Beiber is bigger than Hulk Hogan, sad but true. As are any gaggle of flash in the pan musicians and celebrities. Both Justin Beiber and lady Gaga have almost Forty Million twitter followers a piece, compared to roughly half a million for Hogan. It is not even close folks. Dixie is delusional as ever, as she is the one who made the comparison between Hogan and more mainstream celebrities. She's just a Hogan mark and always has been. That has been clear since TNA tried to sign him in the early 2000's. It is why she let he and Bischoff basically ruin the company for almost 2 years. Sure TNA, bounced back a little bit, but they still don't consistently even reach that mark they set in 2009, with the anti-Christ of professional wrestling at the helm. She's probably dumbfounded why Hogan is not filling up the 10 million seat Pontiac Silverdome, slamming the 900 pound giant in 2013, brother! The reality is, even in WRESTLING today, which is the only thing that is relevant, guys like John Cena, CM Punk and the Rock are much bigger draws than Hogan. Hell…Jeff Hardy is a bigger draw outside of TNA. Hogan is a nostalgia act, and that never equals growth. Which is my entire problem with Hogan in TNA right now. The man simply has too much airtime for the WRONG reasons and Dixie is apparently too myopic too notice it. Which only confirms to me that TNA will never be close to big league while she is ultimately the money mark who has to be satisfied, because there is apparently no one there who is willing to say the necessary things in her ear to help her along.

  17. OldManEaston says:

Paul Heyman made a very astute comment about Hulk Hogan back when there was talk about him joining TNA. He basically said a guy like Hulk Hogan could have value IF he was used properly, as in to use what dwindling appeal he has left to pump up the other talent. What we all too often see right now, is Hogan using his his measuring stick gimmick, where he basically comes out almost every week and tells someone they need to elevate themselves to his standards, be on his team yada yada ad naseum Then most of the time he shoots them down and tells them that they basically aren't there yet brother, or something along those lines. Now if Hogan's time was used more wisely, to actually put guys over, and make it clear he wants to be there because he is impressed by the talent that TNA has, he would be filling a good role. You just don't see him doing that though, unless it is one of his cronies, like for instance Garrett Bischoff, who clearly did not deserve it. So that leads me to believe that Hogan is there for the wrong reasons, and it is ultimately about getting himself over first and foremost. Not surprising as that has been his M.O. throughout his entire career. So his value to TNA is much lower than what it could be.

  18. Real Deal Heel says:

I don't mind Hogan..and he is the BIGGEST name in wrestling EVER…but for Dixie to infer his name is bigger than Elvis, Princess Diana, Michael Jackson… or even Michael Jordan, JFK, Madonna, Pele is just ludicrous.

How long till the sex video of Dixie-Hogan shows up?

    • tnadude says:

So long as we get to see Dixie naked this time instead of Hulk….

Ok – that was WRONG. SO WRONG! Just couldn't help myself!

  19. Matthew says:

Is she on crack thinking Hogan is bigger then Elvis. What kind of drug AND WHY SHE s are they shooting up over there in TNA. And why she saying The Rock would be recognized over there in Africa because he’s partially black talk about a racist. All she’s doing is trying to drum up business for that failing company.
