Gunner: ‘$5 Wrestling Is Disgracing The Business’

During yesterday’s $5 Wrestling iPPV on Highspots, TNA Tag Team champion Gunner slammed the company on Twitter. Gunner posted the following during the show:

$5 Wrestling is a Joke to the world of Pro wrestling and anybody apart (sic) of it is contributing to disgracing this business!! RT That

He then got into it with fans of the promotion, who began a “#f*ckgunner” hashtag that included back-and-forth with the wrestler.

I like Gunner, he has that intensity and look to be someone opponents could fear. I could see them really pushing him in singles matches someday once he establishes himself even more as a tag team champ.

The guy can't even string a sentence together without looking like a douche. That's why he is with Storm. There is a dozen guys in ROH better than this guy.

      • OldManEaston says:

I'd rather have just about anybody who gets tv time in ROH than Gunner, and that includes guys like Silus Young who does a better job in the angry A$$hole role that TNA tried to push Gunner in for a while. Gunner reached his peak when he was working for Bill Behrens. Gunner is sometimes an average worker, but ZERO charisma. He's pretty much the definition of the old WCW new blood guys.

I always liked Gunner, when people said let him go and called him a Lesnar Copycat or a bad TNA Copy of Lesnar, I always stood by his side even since he was with Murphy (does anyone remember him lol?) I can see him as World champ in the future hopefully.

I agree. You can't afford to pay anyone a decent salary when the tickets are that cheap.

I honestly don't know, it all depends on the number of buys. Some smaller promotions that do iPPV stuff can easily make it by on 9$ sales. The thing is it all depends on how many potential buys they had, if they only did a few hundred sales then it's terrible, if they did a few thousand sales then there's potential for profit.

For me despite all the big names gunner stood out in immortal he just seemed hungrier than the rest of that stable and hey 95 per cent of em are history with tna whereas gunner is hitched to the thoroughbrew james storm and good things always come of that

  5. JoeWrestling says:

I thnk TNA is high on Gunner, otherwise he wouldn't be tag champ and he got a good push in 2011 when he pinned Sting and pinned Anderson when he was TNA champion. I was at the Impact Zone for that Slammiversary and TV tapings.. that was the one where Anderson came out on Impact with the games and party setup and Andersen threw beer at him and Gunner put him through the table.

    agreed

You guys are missing the point. 5$ wrestling is supposed to be goofy and fun. Calling it a disgrace to the business is pretty much a compliment. It is pretty ironic too, considering that the entire wrestling business is pretty much a disgrace today. Which disgrace is more disgraceful, the disgrace that openly promotes itself as a funny joke, or the one that unknowingly has promoted itself is a joke for over 20 years, but is not funny?

$5 dollar wrestling is nothing new. There was a time when that was the price to get into see the sport. This was before the wrestlers decided that they needed millions before they would get into the ring. The stars of the past were true performers. They came out and did their jobs and did it well. They did battle in the ring and gave the people a show that they would never forget.

Gunner says it is disgraceful but if it had not been for those times when those wrestlers of old did battle, he would not have any heroes to admire when he was growing up and no one to tell him how to improve his craft. If he is so disgraced by it then maybe he needs to go back to doing what he was doing before he turned to wrestling.

Yup wrestling today is disgraceful today. The posturing and the exorbitant salary's that the wrestlers of today want is nuts. Yup they put their careers on the line every day but are they really worth a couple of million per match or year. Example…the WWE! has become a joke and not a soul is worth the money that they make. It use to be said that those in the WWE could never make it in the WCW…..now it is the this,,,, They would never make it in TNA cause they wouldn't get the spot light all the time.

    • Bigmike885 says:

what are you talking about? Not worth the money…the money is based on how much the DRAW. Drawing means MAKING MONEY for the company…the more they draw..the more they earn. Back in "the day" promoters were not pulling in millions of dollars..so most of the talent didn't make loads of money, but neither did football players, baseball players, or Basketball players. Times have changed. If you think guys like Bruno or Blassie didn't make good money in comparison you're niave.

For an ugly ass dude…he's got charisma. U can't teach that bro.
