Hulk Hogan Sues Laser Spine Institute – Details

The Tampa Bay Times reports that Hulk Hogan is suing the Tampa-based Laser Spine Institute for what he claims are unnecessary surgeries that hurt his career.

Hogan filed the suit in Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Court this morning. He is seeking damages of $50 million. He also claims that the LSI used an endorsement from him without permission or payment. A prepared statement from his attorneys Wil Florin and Eric Czelusta claimed there was “negligent conduct” on the part of LSI that resulted in a provable loss of past and future income of ($50 million) during the last chapter of an internationally successful athletic and entertainment career” for Hogan.

The statement says that “numerous prominent spine surgeons” recommended traditional spinal surgery Hogan, but the LSI told him that would end his career. The lawsuit claims Hogan was “the victim of multiple unnecessary endoscopic surgical procedures that further destabilized his already existing injured back.” has also picked up the story. Here is their article:

Hulk Hogan claims the Laser Spine Institute in Florida is a total sham … and it’s doctors DUPED him into undergoing multiple bogus procedures that were completely useless and damaged his career to the tune of $50 MILLION … this according to a new lawsuit.

Hogan filed the suit in Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Court, claiming he turned to the LSI in 2009 when he seeking treatment for multiple lumbar spinal abnormalities including scoliosis and multiple bulging discs.

In his suit, Hogan claims he fell for a sales pitch which masqueraded as “medical advice” and allowed the LSI to perform multiple surgeries on his back.

Hogan claims the procedures actually made him feel worse in the long run — and blames the institute for not advising him that the laser treatment is only a temporary solution, not a permanent one.

Hogan claims he eventually had to undergo major back surgery with a different set of doctors — and they actually fixed his back.

Now, Hogan says he wants LSI to pay for screwing him up — and for causing him to miss out on employment opportunities in the entertainment world that would have netted him tens of millions of dollars.

And to add insult to injury, Hulk says LSI used his name and image to promote their business without his permission.

He’s suing for more than $50 mil in damages. So far, no comment from LSI.

  3. tnadude says:

Wow! If he wins both lawsuits, he'll be worth almost as much money as Al Gore! ROFL!

Seriously though, I do feel bad for the guy having to have all those surgeries. But, uh, $50m seems a bit steep…

  4. soyfenomenal says:

Lol holy shit, please stop this nonsense! You will get nothing and like it!!

  5. tnadude says:

On a side note – check the ad on the left. Mine is for the Laser Spine Institute… Talk about target marketing gone bad…

  6. HolsG says:

I think what hurt his career more was not looking after himself properly – vitamins can't do it all!

    • rawuncutnxrated says:

vitamins was always code for steroids.

      • pepsilover2008 says:

Let's be honest quite alot of wrestlers used steriods back then, it was just how the enviorment back then was. You had to be huge and musculed up to get anywhere back then. Plus they didn't know the symptoms of it.

        • Philly_Cheese says:

Actually steroids first began to be noticed in the Olympics in 72 and was immediately studied afterward. Most of the symptoms and adverse health effects were known of by 75. Most wrestlers and athletes knew of the health effects of steroid use but didn't care.

  7. DJBIGCG says:

Hogan must not be making any money in tna with him suing for the porno he did and now this

  8. The Truth says:

If it’s all true on how them quacks lie, hell yeah make them pay!

    • tnadude says:

I'm torn on that one. On one hand, I couldn't agree with you more. On the other hand, Hogan has access to the best doctors in the world, yet he chose a local Tampa-based doctor? When RG3 went down against Seattle, the Redskins had Dr. James Andrews ON THE FIELD with him as RG3 was already under his care.

Why would Hogan make that poor decision? I'm sure he was "sold" by the local guys so they could use him for advertising, but I still wonder aloud how they got a chance to consult with him to begin with.

      Sad though. Really sad…

  9. Matthew says:

He’s broke that’s why he’s trying to sue people he can’t wrestle anymore so he’s taking the easy way out and sit on his ass collecting money

  10. pepsilover2008 says:

Well tbh if it did damage his career then yes he deserves the money, but lets be honest even if it didn't he wrestled till he was about 50, he did well for himself in the eyes of many fans. He should be greatful for that

  11. 2blackbelts says:

I am very familiar with LSI professionally, and cannot comment good or bad about the procedures HH had. Unfortunately, some people never get much better after surgery, and blame the doctors. HH has had a long history of LBP, probably caused by years in the ring, his height, steroids, and other factors.

I do find it disturbing that HH seems to have a long and storied history of litigation, either as the defendant or the plaintiff. It seems like that over the last few years he has been involved in more lawsuites than wrestling.

  12. Herr_Odditus says:

Even if Hogan wins the lawsuit he won't get that amount he's asking for, and probably nothing anywhere close to that amount. Most likely what will happen is they will settle out of court.

Yet another chapter in the never ending saga…
