Report: More Details On TNA Losing TV Overseas

Partial Source: The Wrestling Observer Newsletter

To follow up on our earlier report from this month about TNA losing television distribution in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, more details are now known.

According to sources, TNA provided all programming to Sky in Germany for free with the hope it would expose the product in those European markets that WWE has performed well in. TNA would work with Sky on PPV events to make money on the deal and the hope was that it would lead to strong attendance at events held in the region. However, TNA PPV events only drew a few hundred buys and attempts to run live events in those markets were huge disappointments.

TNA made the call to let the contract expire and were hoping to shop the programming to another provider in the countries. Sky was described as not being happy with the deal and looked at TNA as a low-rated television show with no upside.

Fcuk sky they suck big donkey b+lls they think theyre god cos of all the cash they have to throw at tv shows to steal em from competitiors who struggle with limited budgets hm kinda draws comparisons between vkm n tna

  2. Whatever says:

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha tna is a low budget company with no upside. Well duh spike tv could have told them that

Rome wasn't built in a day dipshit.

      • Whatever says:

Ur right it didn’t. But did it take 10+ years to build Rome dipshit. And no I’m not picking one company over the other all wrestling no matter who is putting on the show will never be what it use to be and as popular as it use to be.

        • Peckar says:

Yes it did half wit. Go back to school.

          • Whatever says:

I am in school slap nut and I know it took almost 900 years give or take a day or two but if u think tna needs that amount of time to succeed then ur even dumber than u look. Oh and by the way happy holidays or merry Christmas which ever u prefer spanky. Be happy be positive so much negativity from people it’s not good for the world

          • Peckar says:

Awesome. You discovered google. Congratulations on that. I am positive. Positive you are still suckling mummy's boobies.

  3. Treck says:

Whatever person you are a dumbass. TNA does good for Spike. Look at the numbers dumbass. Its cable

    • Whatever says:

Yes tna does do what u consider numbers for spike tv but look at viewership shows like ink master and tattoo nightmare bring in more viewers than tna does dumbass. My whole purpose of all the comments I make are to get these tna mark ass bitch fans to thumb me down and to make people like u make stupid comments like the one u made. I plan on being the most hated “heel” commenter on this site and if ur not down with that well u know what u can do SUCK IT BITCHES

      • Philly_Cheese says:

Idk where you're getting your information from, but last I checked ink master and tattoo nightmares bring in about .4 to .5 on new episodes… TNA easily doubles that consistently. Anybody who's seen all the ratings from Spike's shows can tell you that 90% of their shows consistently get around .5 or lower. The only exception is the UFC based stuff, which consistently gets the same ratings TNA does.

  4. Mr. Excitement says:

I don't get the anger here. TNA's experiment with Sky failed.

Oh well, TNA's moving forward and not giving up just yet.

In time things can turn around.

  5. rawuncutnxrated says:

Sounds like Sky knows TNA better than Spike does. And certainly a lot better than most on this board.

    • ripwhoozwah1 says:

Ha Ha Ha, yea go back to your parents basement and being a virgin, while worshiping the WWE, we will be happy being grown ups, having a lives, and enjoying a much better product.

      • Bigmike885 says:

yes..because adults use the words "grown ups" and "having a lives"…this is a wrestling site, people have with it.

  6. Dirk1n says:

Sky complaining about free tv, that sounds about right

I always thought Germans loved their pro wrestling, it's where I first saw WCW, watching the nWo feud with DDP with German commentators was still pretty great
I wonder if they bothered to promote TNA

    • Masch86 says:

The Problem is Sky Germany is a only Pay TV Network and Pay TV in Germany is not so popular as you might think. In earlier years, wrestling was on free TV and it was a great success. Germany, Switzerland & Austria together have 100 Million Peoble, but Sky has less than 10 million customers.

If they bring Impact to German Free TV they could even overtake WWE what concerns the ratings, exactly like in the UK.

      • Philly_Cheese says:

They could easily do the same in germany that they did in england, put it on free TV and watch the shear numbers it'll generate. People seem to fail to realize why WWE did the same with smackdown, and saturday night main event… Fact is a lot of people don't bother with paid TV services, and you'd easily be able to reach far more people with free TV on network broadcasting. The bigger problem is they can't really do that in the US without getting problems from the FCC.

  7. Larry_The_Dwarf says:

    Exactly…look at XFL , for instance…it lasted hardly one season , then tanked !!! WTF…Shit Happens…just a business venture

  8. stocksharkbite says:
