Report: TNA Knew Months In Advance About Jeff Hardy

Source: The Wrestling Observer Newsletter

As reported on earlier, current TNA Champion Jeff Hardy was pulled from the iMPACT! Wrestling UK tour just days before it began. Signs were posted at the first overseas event on 1/21 in Dublin, Ireland stating he would not be appearing on the show due to an injury. The “injury” was played out on the 1/24 episode of Impact Wrestling following the main event that was taped on 1/18 in Orlando before the tour officially kicked off a few days later.

At the onset of announcing the UK tour, TNA had hopes they could “pull strings” and get Hardy to be part of the tour. In the remaining months Hardy was advertised as the main star for the tour being front and center on most posters. To make matters worse, TNA knew for some time they weren’t going to be able to send him on the tour due to his felony record of drug trafficking and continued to advertise his name.

Sting was added to the tour at last minute to fill in for Hardy and headlined a series of house show events tagging with Kurt Angle. As noted earlier, the UK tour last year was advertised as Sting’s final overseas tour of his wrestling career.

Maybe they were trying to keep his injury "kayfab," to quote Joseph Parks.

im sorry, but Keyfab or not thats not a cool thing to do. The fans in Europe were told Hardy would be there, even when they knew when he wouldnt..just not a good thing to do. Could have even made it into a storyline, having a snarky heel (Daniels maybe) come out in a cocky ass way saying how Jeff let his fans down by not being able to go becasue of his past…Might not have been perfect, but it would have better than flat out lying..

I agree, then they go & put Stink on the tour and completely contradict themselves. TNA is just run by chickenhawks. Anything to make a buck and they can't even come up w/ a decent story to at least camouflage it a little.

      • tnadude says:

Ditto. If Europe is so important, why are they putting their credibility on the line? It's a poor way of treating their fans.

      • Leg Drop Jobber says:

Oh, I agree. It's not cool at all. It's also really not cool that they actually rely on Hardy that damn much.

I would figure they would know, we were told months ago on here that he wouldn't be allowed to travel due to the legal issues…..

    • rawuncutnxrated says:

Not every fan checks this website before buying tickets. It's classic bait & switch and they are about to catch a suit over it. Now if Hardy was legit injured that is different, see the Flair case in Japan. But this is going to cost them in the Euro market & deservedly so. It won't be huge but for a company that barely has 2 nickles to rub together it will still sting.

      • Dirk1n says:

        *Card subject to change

        • rawuncutnxrated says:

I was waiting for the 1st idiot that would say that. No, this does not exempt someone from a "bait & switch" which is what TNA did. If someone got injured or a family emergency those are legit reasons that the card is subject to change & can be applied. Just doing it to milk the fans is BS.

” card subjet to change”……..read the fine print. Cool that Sting showed us why he is the the most honourable man in the wrestling business.
