Report: WWE Employees Assigned To Watch TNA

Source: The Wrestling Observer Newsletter

To correct a report from last week on WWE opening Raw broadcasts with a man narrating video packages after Vince McMahon was shown a tape of TNA Wrestling’s Impact Wrestling show, he was actually informed of the concept by an employee and upon being intrigued, immediately concluded that his company could do it better. It was noted that if he had actually watched an Impact Wrestling opening, he probably would have been embarrassed with WWE blatantly copying an idea from TNA.

Multiple members of WWE’s creative staff—more their assistants—are assigned to watch tapes of TNA, Ring of Honor and WWE’s NXT, and file a report on its contents. There are other employees who work in the same capacity as consultants for the company.

Though some creative writers joined WWE with no knowledge of professional wrestling whatsoever, there are some who were prior fans.

Is this shocking? It really isn't wwe has done this for years, just hasn't been as obvious as it has been as of late

  2. tnatotallysucks says:

TNA copying WWE, WWE copying TNA, they're all the same thing that we heard for the past couple of months.

  3. DJBIGCG says:

I don't know what to say about this article or tna and wwe copying each other, but I still say imo in order for people to get back into wrestling, tna should go head up with wwe monday night raw one of these days

    • tigerpie says:

didn't they try that a year or so ago and it absolutely bombed?

      • DJBIGCG says:

yea tna tryed it and got there buts kicked by wwe. But if we have never have a monday night war again, what else do you think tna or wwe can do to get people interested into wrestling again?

        • Pipboy86 says:

There honestly may be nothing that TNA can do at this point short of finding someone with a unique vision and letting them run with it.. I sincerely in my heart of hearts think the biggest mistake they made was not giving Paul Heyman a chance. There is no reward without risk. He certainly has proven himself a wrestling visionary in more ways than one several times. If not Paul Heyman, then someone is already likely out there with the vision RIGHT NOW! Finding and them and being willing to trust them is the tricky part. It will happen eventually though, but maybe not for TNA. As Paul Heyman said, they weren't ready. They wanted something safe. WWE will do as it has always done and seek to co-opt that vision to their repertoire when it comes. They are mainstream, that is what they do.

          • DJBIGCG says:

I agree. TNA should have given the ball to heyman because I bet by now, tna would probably be getting ratings in the 1.5s and up on a regular, but wwe has heyman now. The only other person or two things tna needs is eb taking full control and an open check to sign new talent. Yes tna has rvd, the dudley boyz, sting, angle etc… But I bet when all of those people want one more big match before they fully retire, that is going to be in wwe not tna

        • godoftna says:

The biggest thing that tna needs to get more people interested is basic word of mouth. so many people run down tna that those who have never seen it figure they shouldnt bother watching the show. the fact is though that at this moment in time, tna actually, IMO, has the better product. The storylines are better, most of the matches are better, and a lot of the characters are better. does impact need to move out of the impact zone? absolutely, and that would provide a big boost to its fan base, but word of mouth is what is going to get people watching tna and impact NOW. when goldberg hit the scene in wcw, part of the reason he got so popular so quickly is because fans would tell their friends, "hey, u gotta see this guy". and thats what fans need to do with tna, go out and tell their friends, "hey, you gotta watch this show".

    • ariesstormjoe says:

they tried that a while back and it didnt work. nor should it. wwe have far more history far bigger fanbase than tna. after tna have about 20-30 years themselves. then they can say ok we should be challenging a wwe a little more. within that time they should have improved their advertising/marketing.

WHAT!! I don’t think so the grand daddy of them all to copy TNA. Nope that’s like the Rock copying AJ Styles it will never happen, because The Great One is just that GREAT!! The WWE just needs to cut some dead weight, and shore up its Storylines. The WWE has the talent, it’s just the Storylines are weak, and that’s putting it lightly! SMH WWE copying TNA Yeah Right!!!! The WWE has no reason to copy TNA!!!! Stop Hateing on the WWE!

  6. hangers says:

If everyone wasn't watching everyone I'd be very surprised indeed..

  7. Nova_numb says:

I agree with all of the others who said it. If they weren't watching each other, I would be more surprised. I think is stupid when people in WWE and there might be some in TNA that have said it too, who pretend like they have never watched the other show. I believe Michelle McCool tried that line when she stole the Styles Clash. Just be straight up about it, of course you are watching the competition no matter how far they are off from being on your level. It is a good business action to know what the others are doing so they don't sneak up and bite you in the ass.

  8. Dante_Cross says:

Why hire writers without prior experience dealing with wrestling to work for the top wrestling promotion in the world?

  9. TwIsTeD_EnEmY says:

I cant really remember when TNA copied WWE last

    • Dante_Cross says:

I think the last few times, with the Angle Screwjob and the Sting return, those were more like they're making fun of WWE as opposed to trying to emulate.

      • TwIsTeD_EnEmY says:

I watched the promo of Sting returning on youtube earlier today, and everyone seems to think they were copying them because TNA couldn;t do their own promos

  10. destroyer_v39 says:

Don't forget the Judas Mesias, Abyss, and James Mitchell storyline similar to Kanes, Undertaker and Paul Bearer.

  11. Larry_The_Dwarf says:

WWE and formerly WWF have copied their "adversaries" for eons , especially copying ECW and WCW during and before The Attitude Era…and that is a the undeniable truth !!! But if TNA copies something from the mighty McMahon machine , all the marks come out of the woodwork and say shit like "See , TNA is only an indy wrestling organization and will NEVER be as great" !!! People…Wrestling is spiralling downward at a fast pace…sub-par storylines , no organization , Uber-Ego's , and just plain greedy figureheads that care more about making big payday's and less about putting on a super-great "wrestling" show…what made them as rich as they are in the first place !!!

  12. korrander says:

WWE has a creative team? Like, people actually write that crap? Coulda fooled me…
