The Reason For The TNA Releases Revealed

Today’s releases from TNA (so far Madison Rayne, Crimson, Taeler Hendrix, Joey Ryan and Christian York) have been due to budget cuts within the company. The talents released were being paid a monthly guarantee with an additional fee when booked for TNA events. Since they weren’t being used regularly, there was no need to have them under contract. It simply doesn’t make any sense to pay people who are rarely being used and that the company has no current plans for. This is the same thing that happens almost yearly in WWE – they cut the “dead weight” backstage as it doesn’t make sense to pay people who aren’t being used.

TNA is talking of cutting more costs with the added expenses of producing iMPACT! on the road. This includes the exists of several executives in marketing and public relations.

Get rid of the Hogans! They don't wrestle and get paid ridiculous salaries!

    • Tiffanydude says:

This is the 1st time I actually agree with getting rid of Hogan, I usually say what Hogan has done for the company positively but seeing these releases is absolutely ridiculous!

      • Mutter5 says:

        and king mo and rampage!

        • ariesstormjoe says:

king mo and rampage would be paid per appearance i do believe and spike tv pay a large part of their contract. would be the same for the hogans. tho i would get rid of brooke id keep hulk.

      • ariesstormjoe says:

get rid of brooke. but id keep hulk. reason being gm options. lacking much? take hogan away from being GM whos replacing him? bischoff or jarrett? say your decision is bischoff the next question is how long will bischoff be gm for? say 1 year which isnt that long in comparison to longer lengths of time.

within 1 year jarrett could be the GM after bischoff but then what happens when you want jarrett off tv? perhaps have sting as the GM but who after him without bischoff, jarrett and sting i think the decisions become interesting to say the least. having hogan just allows tna to think about their next gm with a choice imo.

        • Tiffanydude says:

Good Point, Brooke gives nothing to TNA, at least Hulk is the GM and maybe somehow (a miracle) he could get a pay reduction (But i wouldn't hold my breathe)

  2. Dante_Cross says:

I am pretty sure there is a rule where you can't fire someone if they are pregnant, making them unable to participate in the sport like wrestling.

  3. BK_Decker says:

In the terms of business I understand it, hard on the wrestlers, but TNA really needs to sort out their finances and who's in management big time.

  4. piro4351 says:

lol the biggest dead weight on the roster aka the Hogans..it makes absolutely no sense to keep any of them around, as Hogan has ZERO aura/ nostalgia in the TNA environment..of course the moment he sets foot on WWE land, things would be diffrent. TNA is just very very very far from that level..and im surely not a WWE fanboy..

  5. TheBringer92 says:

lol budget cuts, theyve just signed "Rampage" and got brooke hogan who does what exactly? Then youve got Hulk Hogan, in all fairness his name goes abit of way but its not the 80s brother.

  6. Sturk says:

It's funny how folks say WCW was dumb for paying ppl who they never used but ppl on here say TNA is dumb for firing ppl they never used lol……. I'll say TNA is smart for letting folks they don't use go.

    • tnadude says:

Thank God someone around here has some common sense! I had truly given up on finding that comment. People around here hate on Christian York. The call Crimson "Crimsuck", yet scream, b1tch, and moan the end of the world when they are released like they were the next coming!

NEWS FLASH: None of them mattered in the grand scheme of things. None of them made an Impact (pun intended), each has a better counterpart who's under used, none will be missed – AND – Impact will still be seen Thursday ***ht on Spike TV!

  7. tnafan05 says:

glad sam shaw hasnt gone but crimson been released im gutted about thought he had real potential id rather see hogan gone than crimson

  8. annil8or4321 says:

i get it but i dont agree with everyone they chose to let go, im sure there are some people more deserving of a pink slip

  9. Ly says:

Ppl may not agree with TNA releasing these wrestlers, but it is the smartest thing that they can do for the company in this moment. But what would be even smarter is to stop the road shows, and go back to taping at universal studios. I know there are people that would disagree, but those people don’t know the cost of taking the company on the road. I know Hulk Hogan, Terry, may not wrestle and draws a big salary, but he is getting paid for his name, and bring in more fans because of who he is. With Brooke I don’t figure she’ll be there much longer. I know the company would have liked to keep all the wrestlers that was released, but the two that had the most potential was Crimson and Christian York. Madison will return to the company as soon as she is ready. But I also agree that the company needs to get their finance dept in order. Ly

1st time commenting, and the wwe took the impact zone, i heard. Its gonna b there HOF home or something

  10. deke43 says:

TNA has lost the plot. Its a shambles. Jackson will not draw. Hogans are pointless. Get rid of them complete waste of time and money

    • Mutter5 says:

1000% agree. King mo, another name. Matt morgan, who missed him while he wasnt signed to TNA?
      I would even say Taz….

  11. kevinroulette says:

Everyone says get rid of Hulk. Do you guys even watch TNA or just read about it. Hulk gets the biggest pops of the night when he comes out on Impact . So people like Hulk and he still is the Face of Wrestling . As for brook yes get her in the ring and teach her to wrestle or release her.

People get dropped all the time and everyone on that list is no loss really.

  12. JoshuaTNA says:

I think you guys maybe over reacting, TNA is releasing their Gut Check winners from their contracts they won. The Contract most likely states that they get paid for appearances and that TNA has financial obligations to that wrestler (Specific to the contact some wrestlers got paid monthly). It won't affect the Rookie OVW wrestlers much cause they still get to wrestle for OVW and be scouted by TNA. It just means that TNA no longer has to pay that person.

  13. RavenNevermore says:

Tna is getting ready to sign one huge name or a couple new names. Mark my word

  14. Laker says:

Why did TNA get so many new talent in the first place if not everyone is going to be used in a 2 hour show

I will say this again: GET RID OF GUT CHECK!

  15. cnote says:

TNA is a train wreck! Everyone jump before you go down with them oh wait that won’t happen cause VKM will buy them out before it does go under. Those releases are good ones anyways all of them sucked especially joey Ryan. U know how u know its bad? When celebrity wife swap with flair and pipper get better ratings then TNA!

    • kevinroulette says:

Isnt that show network tv ? so yes it get bigger ratings than a cable network now a days . TNA gets 1,000,000 viewers thats a lot .

      • Bigmike885 says:

not anymore its not…shows like the walking dead get 7-10 mil per episode…on cable..1 millions isn't as good as it used to be

  17. Mr. Excitement says:

I don't mind Hulk Hogan as GM. Just restructure his deal. If he doesn't accept, let him go.

Let go of Brooke. Her storyline is/was pointless. Seems like Dixie was doing Hulk a favor since she had no where to go.

  18. Laker says:

Get rid of Brooke for sure

Let her spend time with her fiancé

  19. JoeWrestling says:

monthly guarantee? I'm glad they got cut, and I like Crimson. But this shows how the "internet journalists" who complained Crimson losing his last match was an example of how TNA did not know how to book returning wrestlers, when anyone with a brain knew they were using him as a jobber and he was going to be released.

  20. birdmantd says:

Just a few of my own points
    1) In some cases wrestlers are happy to get released as it makes it easier to do their indy bookings
    2) In the case of veteran guys like Ryan and York they really can't have many complaints. I'm sure they knew that they wouldn't have long runs and they got about 6 months or so of TV exposure which only helps their indy booking fee.
    3) The good thing about TNA is being released doesn't mean you'll never come back, whether it's for one off appearances or another run. Just ask Sonjay Dutt, Petey, Kaval, ODB, Austin Aries, Chris Harris etc.
    4) The whole point about TNA should concentrate more on releasing big names with bigger salaries is a whole separate issue. One I agree with but let's not confuse it with what's going on here. And the end of the day you can't fault a company for releasing guys it has no plans for.
