Tom Prichard: ‘TNA’s Problems Start At The Top’

Credit: DrTomPrichard.com

Tom Prichard recently blogged on the problems with TNA and his dealings with the promotion. Here is what he had to say…

First of all, I never worked for TNA. That was my brother Bruce. I don’t care what happens to TNA. It was evident long before Bruce ever got there that their problems were (are) deep. Maybe TNA should start at the top (the very top) and look at what the real issues are. Hiring and firing people is all well and good if it produces the desired changes and makes the company more successful. I can’t speak about what’s going on behind the scenes and I never discussed that with Bruce or anyone else at TNA.

I can tell you I got a call last July with an offer to help with the developmental system in OVW. As seems to be the case with TNA, lack of follow up and professionalism was indeed the case as I didn’t go to Louisville. Why? Never got a straight answer or courtesy call explaining why a representative of the company called and initiated talks about going to OVW as a trainer, ask what I would want to go and then promise an answer “by Monday.” Monday has yet to come…

It’s a shame when a talented roster can’t get a straight answer or get paid on time. Who’s to blame? All I know is if no one can get a straight answer at WWE they go to Vince McMahon. At this time, Vince has the last word and accepts responsibility. Did Bruce screw up or make bad decisions? Don’t know. I wasn’t there. But I do know enough people in TNA who enlightened me on the dealings they’ve had with upper management (long before Bruce ever entered the picture) and the song remains the same…

Wait. that tom…then why is Bruce's picture there……and who gives a crap about what Tom thinks. He never worked there so he had no idea and if Bruce talked to him about it, then glad he is gone!

He is so right on this. Shit rolls down hill and everything starts at the top. Dixie will never own up to anything and all you TNA peeps will just keep sticking up for a poorly ran product. TNA is a sinking ship!!!!

Are you in the VKM ass kissing club?

      • Bigmike885 says:

nope, hes just speaking the truth…Dixie could/should put a end to all this. She doesn't have a backbone and just wants everyone to like her. She has to many different hands in the cookie jar. Say what you will about VKM, but at the end of the day its all on him (both good and bad) and he accepts that responsibility (sure he might blame stuff on others, but it all flows through him and everyone knows it) Dixie needs to be a adult, take control, and let the chips fall where they may. Part of why everything in TNA seems to be a mess is because nobody really respects her.

For those who diidn't care to click the link, he is a professional trainer.

    • jflegler says:

Yep. Used to work for the WWE, replaced DeMott (Hugh Morrus), then DeMott replaced him in developmental.

  5. ariesstormjoe says:

hes wrong. their problems start with spike tv air time, how much spike tv actually "support" the show, amount of advertising/promotional work done. thats at least a start.

tna are not in wwe's position so comparing to wwe is not a good idea. what is a good idea is to consider all the factors involved.

    • tsoutheast says:

      I agree with your points.

    • OldManEaston says:

Enough of the Spike TV stuff already. Spike TV is in the business to make money, not give charity to a wrestling promotion that has ALWAYS had bigger problems than advertising spots. Spike actually has done a a lot for TNA. More than they ever did for ECW for certain. I don't know if they still do, but they paid half of Sting and Kurt Angle's salary at one point. I wouldn't blame them if they no longer did that, because TNA has provided very little in way of returns with ratings and consequently in the way of higher ad revenues that come from such ratings.

TNA has had a nationally televised show on primetime now for almost solid 8 years and they are still basically where they were then they started. I can't think of a single other promotion in history in which this has been the case. By virtue of having that vehicle alone and drawing a million to a million and a half viewers every week, they ought to be able to go to any decent market and draw a couple thousand fans for shows easily, and have some synergy between that and their tv and ppvs, but they don't. That is not on Spike TV. Wrestling companies don't use television for heavy house show marketing like that anymore. If there is a problem on that end it falls on TNA, and for whatever reason, TNA doesn't translate over to a regularly paying audience. More than anything, that rings of dissatisfaction with the product. There is a difference in willing to watch for free and being willing to pay money.

    • Bigmike885 says:

So it's spike TVs fault that contracts where allowed to expire? It was Spikes fault that a number of wrestlers were not liscensed to wrestle? Tell me..honestly..where do you think they should go? What network would be better…and keep in mind..the only station that took WWE was usa..and that's when they had HUGE ratings..

theres a lot of factors ppl are missing which is due to tna being a private company. its a bad idea to not consider all the factors.

  7. TwIsTeD_EnEmY says:

I'd really like to see a longer iMPACT. A longer iMPACT means more advertising time = more money for production + hiring new wrestlers which = better storylines.

    • Bigmike885 says:

yes, because it worked so well for Nitro and Raw…

    • jflegler says:

I really don't see that as a solution just yet.

An additional weekly time slot (call it "The X-Hour" with an hour of all x-div matches) may work better than one 3 hour slot.

    • Get_Carter says:

TNA would just fill it up with 3 hours of Aces & 8s. Hopefully with Bruce Prichard being gone the KO division can slowly start to come back. A 2 hour iMPACT with quality variety is what is needed – not a third hour of the sale old same old.

  8. tsoutheast says:

The porblem with TNA is Dixie Carter. Dixie doesn't know or understand the wrestling business.

    • Philly_Cheese says:

Partially right… It's not that she doesn't know anything about the business, its that she doesn't have a grip on the company. She's letting the inmates runs the asylum… Creative can't agree on anything (well known fact), and she does nothing to be a leader over them, they just continue to bicker with each other while nothing really fully meaningful happens. Bruce was given full reign over the contracts, and Dixie did nothing to prevent letting contracts expire. Hogan oversees a lot of stuff Dixie doesn't want to deal with, and well Hogan doesn't have the best reputation about knowing how to run a company. Hogan has had little to no success in business, and his idea of how wrestling works is extremely outdated (one of those people who thinks it must always be face vs heel). Problem is, she doesn't take control of the company, and is just letting the ship float without any true direction.

  9. Nova_numb says:

TNA is one of the highest rated programs on Spike…I don't think they are going to complain about that. Of course TNA should do a better job of promoting themselves in markets that they are coming too. They should do a better job of long term planning for their events so you don't have people without licensing to work that night and you can get out there and promote the house shows to the people…Maybe even lessen the price of some of the tickets to bring in bigger crowds. The economy isn't good no matter what anyone in Washington might want to tell you…People have less money for entertainment…So give them something that translates into bigger crowds. I do think Spike is an issue too. I can watch that channel for 12 hours and I bet I would see twenty five ads for Bar Rescue or some other crappy show…But never one TNA ad until usually the day before or the day of the show…That's an issue.

Tom Prichard use to be a wrestler.

  13. RavenNevermore says:

And people can cut on Dixie all they want but she is a heck of alot better at the wrestling business aspect than the internet god himself Paul Herman. Business wise the ECW guys went without being payed. Heck tna has lasted much longer than ECW when it comes to being on a cable channel. Dixie makes mistakes. Unlike McMahon she does not have thousands and thousands of people working for her. Or does not pay some of the important internet guys off. To troll etc etc. So shut up wwe lovers. Go pay attention to your watered down shows. And when did Ryback turn into Bully Ray? Lmfao.

  14. monsters are real says:

The more TNA tries to be different the more they look like an indy version of wwe
