UK Wrestler Injured After Match With AJ Styles

Just back from the Preston City Wrestling show here in Preston, England. They had a weekend of excellent shows featuring the likes of Styles, Chris Masters, Chris Hero, Mike Bennett & Maria, and Godfather/Papa Shango. The show tonight was hugely anticipated, a packed building sold out with 1300 fans for a Lionheart vs Styles main event.

Lionheart beat Styles in an excellent match, but afterwards, Styles gave him the Styles Clash. Lionheart tucked his chin and landed squarely on the top of his head.

It was almost exactly like the Roderick Strong incident back in January in ROH, when Strong got injured taking the same move. Really scary landing, and even worse, Lionheart wasn’t moving his arms or legs afterwards, just lying face down in the ring.

It wasn’t an angle or anything, people could see it was real straight away. Officials came out along with medics. It was the end of the show anyway, but they asked if everyone could leave the building as quickly as possible so they could attend to Lionheart in the ring.

The crowd were really respectful, Lionheart is the number one heel in the promotion, but everyone was chanting his name in support. No word on how he is as of yet, but some of his co-workers are tweeting ‘pray for Lionheart’ which doesn’t sound good at all. Just thought I’d pass this info on.

I hope he has a speedy recovery, ouch that sounds painful.

I just cant believe that A.J. being the veteran that he is in his career at this point, is going around botching a finishing move that he's been doing for damn near 15 years. I mean why would this happen two different times? Because this is definitely a work. These guys are tucking their heads on purpose. You know he's about to drop your body parallel to the mat. So why would you tuck your head in? There is really no way A.J. himself could botch this move, this is the other wrestlers fault.

Or because he was in tna and facin the same handful over and over….

Why would you think this was a work? If this had happened to two people in the same promotion, I might agree with you. But it happened with Roderick in ROH, and with Lionheart in Preston City Wrestling. What would AJ gain from this? There's no storyline to advance here. I think AJ's getting sloppy, not that he was all that great to begin with.

It is not a work. Nobody is going to risk paralysis by taking a basic face bump wrong on purpose. It is just stupidity, inexperience or the fact that a lot of guys haven't seen this move that causes them to screw up. It is just a basic face bump. Like week one wrestling school that is not completely yard tard quality.

What I want to know is why Roddy Strong keeps screwing up, when he is so technically sound and experienced. He's not a young boy.

    come back to tna aj

  4. MRPC says:

Surely when on the receiving end of a Styles Clash you would put your head up and not down?

  5. andy3323 says:

If this site would have spent about 30 seconds more on a search engine, they could have provided the updated information that he has a broken neck, no nerve damage, and is sitting up and moving all limbs.

  6. JoshuaTNA says:

The Guys in TNA have been recipients of the styles clash for over 10 years, They know how to take and sell the move. The Indy guys rehearse very little and just go out there and wrestle which leads to injuries sometimes. AJ should just retire the Move unless he's using it in TNA where the guys know how to take the move and they have time to rehearse the details.

    • AussieWrestling says:

No he shouldn't. It's a simple face bump it isn't like a border toss when you're not in control in the air.

      • OldManEaston says:

I hate the border toss, it is one of the most dangerous moves ever conceived in wrestling. It totally relies on the guy throwing you, not to dump you on your head. I would never take it. One wrong thing on his part and there is absolutely nothing you can do to protect yourself. You are completely at his mercy.

I imagine taking it has kind of a similar feeling to the first time I got hit low in football, going off my feet and seeing a 220 pound linebacker barreling towards my head at full speed. If I had had more time, I might have been able to think of more than "OH F**K*

    • OldManEaston says:

AJ tells everybody how to take it. It is a simple face bump, what more can he say? If guys can't do a face bump where they have tons of time to prepare for it, they shouldn't be wrestling.

  7. UKWRESTLINGFAN says:

https://www.facebook.com/AdrianLionheartMcCallum/… broken neck – no sergury needed.

  8. ian says:

Rumour is lion heart has broken his neck in 2 places and could have to retire from pro wrestling which is a shame because he really is a true pro to watch an awesome heel kinda like Desmond Wolfe
