Backstage News – Why Jeff Hardy Is Getting A Title Shot

There are several reasons why Jeff Hardy won the Bound for Glory series and will main event against Austin Aries at TNA’s biggest show of the year. Hardy’s contract is expiring in February and TNA wants to keep him happy.

In addition to that, TNA expects Hardy to drive PPV and movie theater sales for the show, as more mainstream fans are willing to pay for Hardy (over James Storm, who was also considered). TNA is hoping that merchandise, live event ticket sales and television ratings will go up with building a major program around Hardy.

There are also rumors as we noted yesterday that Hardy will return to WWE once his contract expires. Those rumors are far from confirmed and there is still lots of time left on his current TNA contract.

For those who may have missed it yesterday, Sonjay Dutt is the featured guest on the latest edition of TNA Today with Jeremy Borash. The twelve-year veteran talks about how he worked over the years to obtain a college degree while developing his career in professional wrestling, family, an injury that consistently holds him back, the X Division and more. You can watch the episode at this link.

Bully Ray shouldve said "BFG winner or no deal"… seems like the title gos to the guy who teases a move to wwe most.

& I thought wwe wouldnt sign TNA wrestlers? why is this even a problem?

Hypocrites has nothing to do with it. All business are essentially hypocrites. There is no honor among thieves. They simply do what is best for business, first last and only. For the time being is also the key word. It doesn't give a precise time table. Hardy is still relatively young and could realistically produce at a high level for another 5-8 years physically or until he has some kind of relapse or becomes old hat and loses his drawing power. There has been a lot of speculation what Hardy will do. WWE certainly can't be ruled out of the question as he has expressed personal desire to have one more run with the company and would like the money due to his legal expenses. I actually believe it will happen because the lure of WWE is really just almost too strong at this point. WWE would be hard pressed not to make an exception for the one guy who was the only guy arguably as popular as John Cena over the last half decade. Even if they don't immediately, it could be something done a year down the road. There is a very high likelihood that Hardy would simply sign a short term (one year) agreement with TNA, or if they can't come to an amicable agreement, he would simply work the indies for a year with his brother until the legal issues were resolved between TNA and WWE or WWE felt they were in a more satisfactory postiion.

Right now I would guess that it is 50/50 we will see Jeff Hardy in WWE in 2013. And about 80/20 likelihood in favor of it as 2014 approaches. Which is why I am not in favor of putting the title on Jeff Hardy. He didn't boost buys, ratings or attendance for TNA during his first run, because TNA doesn't seem to be a company that works like that. It is more of a collaborative effort in TNA, rather than one or two guys who drive the gates. The only thing where he is a sure fire bet is merchandising and he doesn't need to be TNA champion to do that.

That was a long time ago. People make mistake, he's paid he's due and I think he deserves another shot. As much as I like Austin Aries as a champ, Aries is naturally smaller and should just continue to be X Division champ and make that division proud. I know Aries is the same height as Benoit, but I don't know why I see Aries looking like a way smaller man then Benoit. I guess Benoit was better built, he looked like he was 6' 1" instead of 5' 9"

    • Raincold57 says:

enough of this he's small crap he can brainbuster anybody on the roster bully, samoa joe, the big guy in aces and eights i like to see bryan and punk do that but they cant

    • Raincold57 says:

if hardy wins and everybody goes yeah but a few months later he leaves for the wwe then how stupid will that look oif anything aries should turn heel and destroy hardy

  4. Bigmike885 says:

While i agree that Hardy doesnt really deserve this shot, you're still an idiot. Who's your favorite wrestler? Are they squeaky clean? Do they not have their own demons? Look at the guys from the 80/early 90's half of them are admitted drug addicts or drunks. But you seem to have a higher moral athority than everyone else, so we should all bow down to your greatness…right?…

  6. Sturk says:

That post is only rumor and or speculation so you shouldnt diss a man based on pure rumor.
